Who We Are

Because we are foster-based rather than a traditional brick-and-mortar shelter, our ability to help depends on available foster homes, veterinary resources, volunteers, and community support. This model allows us to give individual cats and kittens the hands-on care they need while also focusing on practical solutions that can prevent homelessness before it begins.

Our Mission

Our primary focus is Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) and compassionate intervention for cats facing critical or emergency situations. We work to reduce suffering, prevent unwanted litters, improve the health of community-cat populations, and help cats in crisis receive appropriate veterinary attention.

When resources and funding are available, Purrfect Kitty Mission also works to make essential veterinary care more accessible to local residents through spay/neuter assistance, vaccinations, veterinary support, and other preventative services. Helping families access care can make the difference between a cat remaining safely in its home and becoming another homeless animal.

What We Do

Our Community Work

Purrfect Kitty Mission has grown through hands-on community involvement. Public rescue records describe the placement of more than 50 cats and kittens during an early kitten season, along with veterinary care and spay/neuter efforts. Our work has continued to expand from individual rescue cases toward broader community-cat solutions.

In March 2026, the City of Olean formally authorized a service agreement with Purrfect Kitty Mission for TNR and emergency feline care services. The agreement identifies the following services to be provided:

• Humane trapping
• Spay/neuter by licensed veterinarians
• Rabies vaccination
• Ear-tipping
• Return of sterilized community cats
• Emergency veterinary coordination
• Community education and colony-management support

Purrfect Kitty Mission has also participated in community fundraising efforts, including Cattaraugus Gives, helping bring local attention and financial support to the needs of cats and kittens. Our ability to continue this work is made possible by donors, fosters, volunteers, veterinary professionals, community partners, and people who simply choose to help an animal in need.

Why Foster-Based Rescue Matters

A foster home gives a cat more than a temporary place to stay – it gives that cat a chance to decompress, heal, learn to trust, and show who they really are. This is especially important for kittens and fearful or unsocialized cats who may need patience and consistency before they are ready for adoption.

Our foster families become an essential part of each rescue story. They provide the everyday care, observation, socialization, transportation, and love that a small rescue could not provide alone.

It Takes a Community

We believe lasting change happens when rescues, veterinarians, foster families, volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and community members work together. No single person or organization can solve cat overpopulation alone.

Our goal is to build practical partnerships that help cats while also supporting the people who care for them. Whether someone opens their home as a foster, donates a bag of litter, helps with transportation, shares an adoption post, contributes toward veterinary care, or simply reports a cat in need, every act of kindness can become part of a larger rescue effort.
